Meredith Kuhn Receives the ALFA Shining Star Award
It is Cascades of Tucson’s honor to share with you that our very own Executive Director, Meredith Kuhn, was the recipient of the Arizona Assisted Living Federation of America’s (ALFA) Shining Star Award for Executive Director of the Year! This award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated exceptional leadership, unwavering dedication, and an inspiring commitment to enhancing the lives of those they serve. We celebrate an outstanding leader who embodies all these qualities and more. Congratulations, Meredith!
Meredith Kuhn has served as the Executive Director at The Cascades of Tucson since mid-2019, bringing with her a wealth of experience and a heart full of compassion. Her entire career, spanning over 25 years in Assisted Living, has been marked by her tireless dedication to the well-being of residents and staff alike.
A shining example of Meredith’s exceptional commitment occurred during the challenging times of December 2019. Amidst a COVID-19 surge that left many staff members in quarantine, Meredith, who had been in her role for less than six months, did not hesitate to step in. She quarantined from her own family during Christmas, picked up medtech shifts, and called upon the new owner to assist in memory care to ensure all areas were covered. Meredith’s actions were not prompted by obligation but by an unwavering sense of duty to keep the residents safe and the community operational.
Meredith’s leadership style is characterized by her advocacy for resident autonomy. She consistently pushes for solutions that balance safety with preserving the dignity and independence of the residents. Whether it’s finding safe rugs to prevent falls or ensuring residents have a say in their daily routines, Meredith’s approach is thoughtful and deeply respectful of those in her care.
Her positive influence extends beyond crisis management. Meredith has set a standard of open communication and transparency that has fostered trust and respect within the community. Her regular, candid updates during the pandemic were both reassuring and honest, providing a level of comfort and credibility that was greatly appreciated by residents and their families. This culture of transparency has continued, transforming interactions and building a strong, supportive community.
Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of Meredith’s story is her resilience in the face of personal adversity. Following the declaration of the end of the COVID crisis, Meredith was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Despite undergoing intensive treatment, including chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, she remained connected with the community, working remotely to ensure continuity and support. Her tenacity and dedication have been nothing short of heroic. Meredith’s return to work saw the community achieve its highest occupancy since 2007, a testament to her leadership and commitment.
Meredith’s ability to balance business objectives with deep human considerations, her unwavering commitment to the community, and her inspiring resilience make her a truly deserving recipient of this award. She is not only a leader but a beacon of hope, strength, and compassion for all who have the privilege to work with her and be under her care.
Please join me in congratulating Meredith Kuhn, the Shining Star Award for Executive Director of the Year!
Thank you, Meredith, for your exceptional service, your inspiring leadership, and for being the heart and soul of our community.
